Mary Keech Edelen (1908-1990) was an active community member, local researcher, and genealogist. Specifically, Edelen was a member of the Charles County Tercentenary Board of Directors (1958), the John Hanson Society of Maryland Board of Directors, the Restorers of Mt. Carmel Montastery, the Descentants of the Manor Lords of Maryland, the Society for the Restoration of Port Tobacco (1974-75), the Maryland Genealogical Society, the Port Tobacco Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Historical Society of Charles County—among many other community and civic organizations. Mrs. Edelen was also a designer of Charles County’s first official flag, a Charles County Museum Committee member, and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of Maryland.
