Established on July 15, 1915, the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is a non-profit organization with its headquarters located in Washington D.C. Constructed in 1884, the headquarters building holds historical significance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Any woman of good moral character, eighteen years of age or over, is eligible for membership, provided she has been invited by the Society and is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America. Documentary proof of an ancestor’s service prior to 1701 is required.
The Society is comprised of chapters located in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada. Our over 11,000 members share a common interest in American history, love of and respect for our great nation, and the desire to work together in harmonious fellowship to achieve the important goals outlined in the objectives the Society.
